There is no "bare minimum" or maximum when complying with the (L)GPL; You either do or you don't. In Apples case, they do. Do they hand hold the KDE devs through their changes, no, but that has nothing to do with compliance.

Levies aren't necessarily an entirely bad thing.

In Canada, we've had this situation for some time now. The upshot is two things:

1) The money goes to Canadian groups (such as SOCAN).
2) Because we pay this levy, it's explicitly legal to download music from peer to peer networks.

The reasoning on #2 is that if when we buy the device we're charged under the assumption that we're going to be filling it with music that we didn't pay for then we have a legal entitlement to fill it with music we haven't paid for.

This is an arrangement I'm comfortable with.

The retailers will probably be most affected by this. Most people I know already circumvent the levy on writeble DVD's and CD's by ordering them in Germany.

The German company selling the media does not apply the levy because he's selling abroad. The dutch buyer is soppused to take action himself to pay the levy when he recieves the goods. How many people do you suppose do that?

The Netherlands is a small country, and it won't be too much trouble for people to hop accross the border for an iPod, I know I will. I'm abroad multiple times a year anyway, so it's not a big deal. And even those who never leave the country can order them over the net.

Electronics retailers are NOT going to like this one!

As desrt said, we've had this levy in canada since 98, and it's great.

We pay a little under 8c a CD-R, and 40C a gig on mass storage devices. I'm quite happy to pay this, as I it means I can legally download music.

But isn't the Netherlands also still pushing to make filesharing on p2p programs illegal, also?
