I'm a little surprised to see you so enthusiastic about XMP without noting its liabilities.

XMP is basically a proprietary subset of RDF, and some conventions for embedding it in documents (say binary image files). Because it is a rather bizarre subset of RDF defined by Adobe very early in the life of RDF, there is a whole lot of valid RDF that is not valid XMP. For this reason, while vanilla open source RDF tools can easily read XMP, they cannot reliably write it. Hence the reliance on Adobe tools for the most part, which are C++ only.

I'm not just complaining here, BTW. I would like to see Adobe open up XMP much more, and remove the fairly arbitrary modeling restriction it imposes.

XMP as never pretended to be RDF, but rather based on a subset of RDF. That's clear. I don't see were the problem is with C++ per see. It is just a language used to write an implementation. That's all. And Exempi WILL provide a pure C implementation.

dcraw + gtk frontend != automatically free as in libre
I have to pay more attention next time. I'm sorry.
