Desktop Developer Conference 2005 - Free Software for Digital Photography

This presentation has been given at Desktop Developers' Conference 2005 on July 18th 2005.

Abstract

Digital Photography is one of those new key applications for personal desktop computing. However, camera manufacturers only support Windows and sometimes MacOS when it comes to their devices on computer platforms. This did not prevent the development of libgphoto2, to access digital cameras and dcraw, to process the controversial and undocumented raw files. There is also a lack of support, in general, for some required features towards digital photography application, i.e. the lack of integrated color management system. I will try to give an overview of what we have and what we are missing to make free desktops much more suited for digital photography related applications.
