They formatted it that way because they really did send it out as a printed comic book to media outlets.

@Luis: well I didn't get a copy :-) and they could have changed the paper format too because they can :-) I still believe it is a fail.

@Bart: on my X60. Why? If I can't get a full page displayed, it is unreadable. Most web comics are a strip and one page.

Comics can go any which-o-ways but comic-books are traditionally portrait. Complaining that it doesn't fit on a notebook is a bit like complaining a statue doesn't fit in your pocket. Perhaps you should print the thing out.

@Rob: adapting to the media, does that ring a bell? For something that will essentially be read online, having it unsuited for 98% of the screens is just inappropriate. I guess innovation has to stop somewhere.

Have to say it works just fine here too, but then I am on a 30" monitor. I can imagine it would be a bit cramped on a laptop screen.

Anyway, that comic was brilliant and full of win.

Seeing as the comic is something like 40+ pages long and was all drawn by one guy, I'm not terribly broken up that he didn't reformat all the content horizontally. He'd have had to redraw a ton of it.

Actually, most story driven webcomics have extremely similar graphical dimensions to the chrome comic. See: Inverloch, Girl Genius, Order of the Stick, Megatokyo, etc, etc. I'm sure it's just a coincidence all those have been published in book form. ;-)

The chap who wrote it will be creating a web enhanced version when the heat cools off - smccloud.livejournal.com/... . However unless it's going to be delivered as flash vectors don't expect it to adapt to your screen resolution (they are pictures after all)...

Sorry to hear it’s still hard to read. I thought the ability to scroll the whole book together with zooming out might make it easier to read entire cells. Oh well. You can always print…
