You sound like you already know whats up and I dont need to tell you. But you're completely in the right here. Dont give up and keep posting what happens. Im interested since its almost impossible to buy a laptop without Windows.

The worst thing that can happen is it has to be take to small claims court. But if you have your ducks in a row you should win no problem.

I also didnt realize until recently why no one is offering OS-less computers. Sometimes Dell or HP will attempt to offer OS-less computers, but they end up costing more than the ones with Windows. The reason being that companies stuff the Windows PCs with so much crap software begging for your money, they actually make money back. I didnt realize this at first but it makes sense. Microsoft has a sweet little stranglehold on all the computer manufacturers.

Suprisingly, in India, most of their models come with an option of having a "free" DOS called PCDOS or something else.

Hi hub,

My apologies for hijacking this post and reposting but could you please post a bit of a review of the z60t? Looks perfect for my needs but I am a bit concerned about the dim screen. The only place I can see 1 is many 100s of kilometres from where I live and I would really appreciate any info on how you find the screen?

I wouldn't bet on that. First, they don't say the market. If it is China, then there is no hope. Look at HP that sells Linux preloaded in south America... but not here in Canada. Second, remember the IBM slogan "we support Linux" and their clain that they would switch all the company to Linux within a year? Well still waiting.

Lenovo only offers their laptop with Windows, and while this is clear on both their website and in their all-or-nothing license agreement, I still called them to expres my displeasure of having to pay for software that I have no use for.

I have started the quest to find myself a Windows free laptop. Dell Canada are still not offering Linux laptops as their US counterpart does and they don't even have an ETA. I asked exactly the same thing to Lenovo Canada. I just received email response. Here is an extract:

"Currently we do not offer Linux operating systems on
our notebooks. However, we will be introducing
Linux as a choice of operating systems in February."

I can't believe it! I will certainly support them! The only question that remains is: will we save some money over getting the pre-installed Windows?

It might be a sign that things are slowly changing !?
