The only way I could get books show up in Devhelp was creating a devhelp-TOC (manually) and then putting the html-files + TOC in /usr/share/gtk-doc/SOMEFOLDER

You can put your book into ~/.local/share/devhelp/books.

As far as I know, you should use the style sheet named 'devhelp.xsl' which is part of gtk-doc. It will allow you to create the file .devhelp used to store the metadata required by devhelp.

The DTDs for the xml files expected are in the devhelp source:

svn.gnome.org/svn/devhelp...

Existing books provide useful examples once you ignore the HTML files.

gtk-doc comes with devhelp.xsl which creates .devhelp and .devhelp2 files. gtk-doc svn also has a xml schema (xsd) to document the format. just install you files along with the others or adjust the DEVHELP_PATH to make devhelp find them.
